Check out my amazing opportunity to speak with Mr. John Shegerian CEO of ERI recycling, an industry leader making our world a better place!
Through education & socially responsible recycling programs, we can decrease e-waste that ends up in landfills. Improper disposal of old cords contaminate our environment & may be linked to health issues in people, animals & food production. Help me reduce the waste footprint in our community!

The OB Market & OB Main Street Association is providing an opportunity & platform for me to interact with local community members. I'm grateful to have the chance to share what I have learned about e-waste & locations where consumers & business can recycle.
My goal is to create a sustainable piece of Long Island's future e-waste solution.
Best Buy & ERI are sponsoring my Gold project by sharing valuable industry insight and providing free access to pallets and shipping logistics. As the largest retail collection program in the U.S., the everyday in store recycling program is a commitment to being part of the solution. Best Buy is rated a AAA "Best ESG Company: Top Stocks For Environmental, Social And Governance Values". One positive result of the E-waste problem is that investor's expectations are becoming increasing focused on green policies.
The Town of Oyster Bay is organizing the 1st annual used electrical cords campaign to raise local awareness of existing e-waste programs.
In addition to the everyday Bethpage S.T.O.P program, collection boxes will be easily accessible at Town Hall North & South 10/1 - 10/15/21. The choice to keep the hazardous cord materials out of Long Island's landfills begins in our own backyards.
E-waste that is improperly disposed of by residents or businesses leads to toxins entering groundwater, which underlies many surface streams, ponds, and lakes. Many animals rely on these channels of water for nourishment. Thus, these toxins can make these animals sick and cause imbalances in the planetary ecosystem. E-waste can also impact humans that rely on this water.
E-waste can have a damaging effect on the soil of a region. As e-waste breaks down, it releases toxic heavy metals, including lead, arsenic, and cadmium. When these toxins leach into the soil, they influence the plants and trees that are growing from this soil. Thus, these toxins can enter the human food supply, leading to birth defects and other health complications.
When e-waste is disposed of at the landfill, it’s usually burned by incinerators, releasing hydrocarbons in the atmosphere, which pollutes the air that many humans and animals rely on. Many scientists think hydrocarbons released in this burning process can contribute to the greenhouse gas effect and global warming.
E-waste contains over 1,000 different substances and chemicals, many of which are toxic. Cords usually contain copper, aluminum or another heavy metals. Exposure to these metal toxins can cause health problems in humans and animals such complications with respiratory, nervous, reproductive, circulatory systems.
